STOCK UNDER REVIEW #3: PRECISION WIRES INDIA LTD. (NSE: PRECWIRE)

By alphainvest.ing Research

Growth is real. Margin and capital efficiency must now prove the rerating.

Precision Wires India manufactures copper winding wires and insulated conductors used in transformers, motors, generators, appliances and industrial electrical equipment. The business is positioned around continuing investment in power infrastructure, renewables, electrification and industrial capacity.

Q1 FY27 — KEY NUMBERS

* Total income: ₹1,779.2 crore — up 59.5% YoY

* EBITDA: ₹84.7 crore — up 43.6%

* EBITDA margin: 4.76% — down 53 bps

* Profit before tax: ₹61.9 crore — up 71.1%

* PAT: ₹46.5 crore — up 71.5%

* EPS: ₹2.54 versus ₹1.52

The growth signal is strong, but the quality reading is mixed. PAT grew substantially faster than revenue, while EBITDA margin declined.

Copper-price pass-through can enlarge reported revenue without producing the same increase in operating profit. Future quarters must therefore be judged on volumes, margins and cash conversion together.

FY26 established a stronger base:

* Revenue from operations: ₹5,410.18 crore

* PAT: ₹155.27 crore

* EPS: ₹8.58

* ROCE: approximately 30%

* Net working-capital turnover: 12.06 times

CAPACITY AND INTEGRATION

The company reported winding-wire capacity of approximately 55,000 MTPA, with a longer expansion path towards approximately 68,500 MTPA.

Captive copper-rod production at Valvada commenced in March 2026, while the Zaroli refining/recycling project adds potential integration benefits.

Capacity alone does not create value. The tests are commissioning discipline, utilisation, product mix, working capital and return on incremental capital.

MARKET SNAPSHOT — 31 AUGUST 2026

* CMP: ₹506.70

* Market capitalisation: approximately ₹9,275 crore

* 52-week range: ₹170.15 to ₹524.90

* One-month return: approximately 36%

* Six-month return: approximately 62%

* One-year return: approximately 197%

* P/E: approximately 53 times

* P/B: approximately 12 times

The market has already recognised much of the growth story. Strong momentum confirms attention, but the premium valuation leaves little room for execution disappointment.

CAPITAL CHECK

The proposed ₹150 crore preferential issue of compulsory convertible debentures is a central monitoring point.

The relevant questions are:

* How will the proceeds be deployed?

* Will new capacity generate adequate returns?

* Will incremental profit compensate for equity dilution?

* Can EPS continue growing after conversion?

* Will working-capital requirements remain controlled?

KEY RISKS

* Copper-price volatility and pass-through delays

* Further EBITDA-margin compression

* Capacity commissioning or utilisation delays

* Working-capital expansion

* Dilution from the CCD conversion

* A sharp price correction after the recent rerating

WHAT THE NEXT QUARTERS MUST PROVE

1. Broad-based volume growth

2. Stable or recovering EBITDA margin

3. Timely capacity commissioning

4. Operating cash flow that follows PAT

5. Per-share earnings growth after dilution

SVARP OBSERVATION

PRECWIRE has a credible structural-demand and capacity-growth case, supported by strong FY26 and Q1 FY27 earnings. The next stage is to prove that growth converts into durable margins, cash flow and per-share value. The steep market rerating makes evidence and entry discipline essential.
